Never in my life have I experienced such a high level of interest from so many people regarding me or my actions, nor have I ever been questioned this extensively about my decisions. I don't say this to be rude or complain, simply to explain that I have noticed a shift since the fall of 2024.
We made one change and now people want to know everything, want to give their two cents, want to drill me for information, want to judge me for this decision. But why?
Because We are going against the norm
When you go against the norm, the enemy will try to sneak in and get you to doubt yourself.
I think I'll say that one more time, for those who maybe didn't read that correctly the first time... When you go against the norm, the enemy will try to sneak in and get you to doubt yourself.
I know this to be true because this last year has been the hardest year I have ever experienced. Yet, I know without a shadow of a doubt that we are doing exactly what God has called us to do. What is that exactly? I'm glad you asked.
Homeschooling our children
We didn't make this decision quickly. Initially, it wasn't our plan for our firstborn's education. Before having children, we never considered it an option. Both my husband and I attended public schools and even considered school districts when buying a house.
For more on that, check out my previous blog.
Growth
Now I have said all of this to say that I see what all of these people have seen. I know what we are doing is different; I know change is hard. But I also see something that maybe they don't see: growth. (For this blog, I'm only focusing on my own personal growth, not my children's, even though they too have grown oh so much.)
Throughout my life, I've battled with low self-esteem, but now I feel more motivated than ever to learn, create, and pursue my calling. While I still have rough days, they no longer control me. My battle is already won!
On my homeschooling journey, I've learned not to let shyness hinder my growth into who God wants me to be. I've realized the importance of ignoring others' opinions and listening to God's guidance. I've discovered I'm capable of hard things if I'm brave enough to try. Without these lessons, I would have missed many wonderful opportunities.
My Husband
It's even come to the point where my husband has remarked on my growth over the past few years, and until he mentioned it, I hadn't considered it, even though I now recognize this growth too.
Some days are challenging, and I struggle not to give up, but I'm grateful for my husband, who helps me regain perspective, and my kids, who amaze me with their love and understanding.
Shut off the outside noise
Whether your kiddos go to public school, private school, or homeschool, whether you're a working parent or if you stay at home, whether you breastfeed or bottle-feed, you know what's best for your family. And if there is anything I want you to get out of this blog, it is this...
You can do hard things; you can go against the norm.
Shut off the outside noise and focus on what God has called you to do!
Exercise discernment when listening to others. Some offer genuine curiosity and valuable advice, while others may leave you feeling discouraged.
Stand your ground! You are more than a conqueror!
That's all I have this time! I hope you all are having a great summer!
You got this, mama!

"No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us." Romans 8:37
"For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength." Philippians 4:13
