Our Classroom

Homeschooling does not mean you have a "classroom" in your home. Even though that may be nice and it's not bad to have one, it's not a requirement. A simple table and chairs and a little bit of storage will do the trick.
When we began, I only had a two-drawer filing cabinet that stored nearly everything. We also had our dining table and my desk that held my computer and office supplies. All of this was located in our main living area, which includes an open floor plan for the living room, dining room, and kitchen. Initially, it worked for us, but as time passed, we found ourselves needing a bit more storage.

This little corner is right next to our dining table, which made this space an obvious choice for our school supplies. I wanted the area to reflect us while still fitting in with the rest of our home. The first step was to find an affordable cabinet/shelf/buffet to store our homeschool supplies. I had a budget and a vision in mind, but I couldn't afford to be too picky.
I went to thrift stores, garage sales, and even checked Facebook Marketplace. Finally, after a couple of months, I found something that fit our budget and met our needs. No, it wasn't the beautiful antique buffet I had dreamed of, but let's be honest, my budget wouldn't cover that.

As soon as we put it in our home, I was in love! It was taller than I thought it would be, and it fit our home so well. It offered cabinets and drawers, which is something I had hoped for. What a blessing this will be to our family!
Now to decorate.
Just like before, I had a budget and a vision, but this time I needed to remind myself that decorations aren't a necessity. With or without my ideal old-timey schoolhouse decor, I can still create a space that feels uniquely ours. So I purchased a couple of new items and utilized some things I already had. It all came together so perfectly, and I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am with how it turned out.

It may not be perfect, but it's ours. It may not be a "real classroom," but it's home. Our dining table, where we pray, eat, play, and learn. Our happy place and our comfort zone.
I never imagined that something so simple would be so important to us, but it is. And I thank God every day for the opportunity to be a wife, a mama, and a teacher.
Happy Homeschooling & I pray this encourages you! You got this, mama!

P.S. We have 3 children & we live here. Yes, you might see baskets of laundry, toys on the floor, or even a little bit of clutter & disorganization in the background of our photos. Welcome to our beautiful chaos! We're happy you're here!
